As the Gazaro Stud is owned by a veterinary surgeon, we make an ideal 'halfway house' between hospitalisation at an equine clinic and having to fend for yourself with the administration of drugs, coping with wounds and dressings, or carrying out procedures such as daily physiotherapy.
We are able to offer a nursing and convalescence livery to help with difficult nursing cases, or cases that need more frequent attention than it is possible for you to give if you have other commitments.
Geoff retired from veterinary practice after 35yrs but still consults and operates on a part-time basis and carries full indemnity insurance. The experience and facilities available mean that medication can be properly administered (whether oral, intramuscular or intravenous), progress of wound healing, etc., can be effectively assessed, and procedures that would be painful or distressing can be carried out under effective sedation, if necessary. We can also provide box rest and restricted turnout where necessary.
We work with your own veterinary surgeon, carrying out the instructions and treatments that have been prescribed. If we have any concerns about the progress of a condition, we refer to your veterinary surgeon for further instructions.
Livery typically £150-£200/wk depending on the level of intervention required.
Most drugs will be supplied by the referring veterinary practice but medication or other materials that we provide would be charged extra. Most of these fees are reclaimable if your horse is insured, although you would be wise to check with them first.
